Boy I'm glad i found this tribe. Been making knives for the last few years. Just simple period knives in high carbon by stock removal. I have a small old agricultural forge. I use it mostly for tempering and annealing but am really wanting to get deeper into forge welding and more functional blacksmithing. Hope I can learn somthing from you all.

Re: New here
02/27Hi Brian,
Welcome. It seems things sort of move in spurts around here. New faces are always good to pep it up a bit.
Have you found a good anvil? New ones can be pricy and old ones are getting fewer and farther between. -

Re: New here
02/27I wouldn't call it good. It really needs dressed bad. Mouse hole is in great shape. Not as big as I like but hey it was free -

Re: New here
02/27Free is always good.
My main anvil had almost a 1/4" sway in it from God-only-knows how many years in a shop in Georgia. Around 375 lbs though, so it was well worth buying and milling it back to flat.
Search out your local ABANA group. You may find other tools you need at reasonable rates.

Re: New here
02/28Brian,
Good question - they just did a major overhaul on the site and lot has changed so I went and looked and couldn't find the registration area either.
I've got a question into the admin so as soon as I hear back I'll post his answer. -
